RATIONALE: Premature infants exposed to mechanical ventilation (MV) and/or increased
O2 often develop bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a neonatal chronic lung disease,
characterized by a reduced alveolarization. We previously linked reduced Krüppel-like factor
4 (Klf4), a transcription factor regulating cell pluripotency and survival, to lung growth arrest.
