Large eddy simulation of a bluff body stabilised premixed flame using flamelets

JC Massey, I Langella, N Swaminathan - Flow, Turbulence and …, 2018 - Springer
Abstract Large Eddy Simulations of an unconfined turbulent lean premixed flame, which is
stabilised behind a bluff body, are conducted using unstrained flamelets as the sub-grid
scale combustion closure. The statistics from the simulations are compared with the
corresponding data obtained from the experiment and it is demonstrated that the
experimental observations are well captured. The relative positioning of the shear layers
and the flame brush are analysed to understand the radial variations of the turbulent kinetic …

Large-eddy simulation of a bluff-body stabilised turbulent premixed flame using the transported flame surface density approach

CY Lee, S Cant - Combustion Theory and Modelling, 2017 - Taylor & Francis
A premixed propane–air flame stabilised on a triangular bluff body in a model jet-engine
afterburner configuration is investigated using large-eddy simulation (LES). The reaction
rate source term for turbulent premixed combustion is closed using the transported flame
surface density (TFSD) model. In this approach, there is no need to assume local equilibrium
between the generation and destruction of subgrid FSD, as commonly done in simple
algebraic closure models. Instead, the key processes that create and destroy FSD are …
