The present paper aims at modeling and simulating a WTIG (wind turbine and an induction
generator) system as an electricity source in the southern parts of Algeria. System simulation
has been done using a program developed employing the MATLAB-SIMULINK software

The present paper aims at modeling and simulating a WTIG (wind turbine and an induction generator) system as an electricity source in the southern parts of Algeria. System simulation has been done using a program developed employing the MATLAB-SIMULINK software package. The power delivered by the WTIG system and the related Cp quality have been sampled at 1 h time intervals and then statistically compared with those given by the manufacturer. The obtained results have then been validated by the HOMER software confirming the effectiveness of the developed program while deriving a slightly lower estimation of per kWh energy cost than the rate applied by the local Electricity Board which shows evidence of the incentives to investing in this sector as an alternative to the domestically available natural gas (whose prices are subsidized). A significant decrease in the pollutant emissions is also predicted as a consequence of the wind energy electrical power injection into grid.
