Abstract
In this research island structured layers of multi metallic catalysts are prepared by electrodeposition over commercial carbon gas diffusion electrode and investigated as anodes for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in water electrolysis cells with anion conductive membrane. The morphology of the deposited films and their composition are characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) with energy dispersion X-ray (EDX) technics. The electrochemical activity toward OER is investigated in test cell with laboratory prepared polybenzimidazole (PBI) based membrane. The electrodeposited non-noble multi-metallic catalysts show stable operation as anodes under the aggressive conditions of anion exchange membrane (AEM) water electrolyzes. The NiFeCoP alloy demonstrates superior performance (lowest overpotential and highest current density) in comparison with the rest samples under study, including a pure Pt catalyst.
