Abstract
The flow behind shocks diffracting over convex walls has been re-examined and a number of complex flow features have been observed. Numerical and experimental results were used to describe the effect the motion of the separation point along the wall has on the flow field behind a diffracting shock. The use of viscous and inviscid models has made it possible to differentiate the effects of viscosity from pressure effects in the flow field and in particular what effect this has on the secondary shock patterns which form. This work shows that the flow behind diffracting shocks requires further investigation.
