Numerical simulation of m2 internal tides in the south brazil bight and their interaction

BM Castro, L Calafo, ICA Silveira - 2008 - repositorio.usp.br
A fully three-dimensional nonlinear primitive equation ocean model is applied to study the
M2 internal tide in the South Brazil Bight (SBC), considering the presence of an anticyclonic
eddy in the region. The simulated mean flow is dominated by the warm mesoscale eddy
located in the central area of the SBC. The center of this anticyclonic eddy is placed over the
500 m isobath and velocities reach 1.0 m s-1 at the offshore portion of the eddy. High
velocities were also modeled close to the 200 m isobath at the NW quadrant. The internal …

Numerical simulation of M2 internal tides in the South Brazil Bight and their interaction with the Brazil Current

AF Pereira, BM Castro, L Calado… - Journal of Geophysical …, 2007 - Wiley Online Library
A fully three‐dimensional nonlinear primitive equation ocean model is applied to study the
semidiurnal internal tide in the South Brazil Bight under summer conditions. Along the shelf
break and upper slope of this region, the upper layer (0–600 m) is occupied by the
southward flowing Brazil Current. Several numerical experiments were conducted to
investigate the generation and propagation of the M2 internal tide. Using horizontally
homogeneous and vertically stratified density fields, internal tides were generated over the …
