This paper examines the relevance of reforms, which were introduced on higher education in Nigeria. Higher education has witnessed series of reforms, which are meant to improve the system and enhance its capability to produce competent personnel for national development. However, many graduates from tertiary institutions are not competent enough to meet the demand of labour market. Reforms introduced so far seem ineffective because adequate consideration was not given to what Nigerians need in order to address the challenges posed by globalization to education. Some of the reforms were implemented without considering their impacts on other units, levels and types of education. The reforms could be relevant if environmental challenges and opportunities are considered before initiation and implementation. It is therefore recommended that reforms should emanate from needs of the society. It is also recommended that funds, facilities and personnel should be made available for successful implementation of reforms.
