Role of Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology in Disorders of Lymph Nodes.

During a study period from October 1989 to July 1991, utility of FNAC was assessed in 197
patients with significant lymphadenopathy. In 156 patients aspiration yielded adequate
material for cytological interpretation. Fifty five aspirates showed features of tuberculous
lymphadenitis where diagnostic accuracy was 100% and sensitivity was 71.4%. In 68 cases
malignancies were detected, of which 57 showed metastatic malignancy. Twelve cases
