The overall objective of this research is to investigate the potential of a Smart Irrigation

The overall objective of this research is to investigate the potential of a Smart Irrigation systems with a combination of soil moisture sensors and micro sprinklers as an efficient irrigation system during freeze condition. When 1 gram of water freezes 80 calories of heat energy is released, if the same 1 gram of water evaporates it will absorb 600 calories of heat. The experimental system, which has feedback sensors like wind sensor, relative humidity sensor, soil sensors, actuators and valves among other sensors and devices; controls the irrigation and applied water to the crop on demand in a most efficient manner. During a freeze event this same system switches to freeze prevention and applies water to the crop canopy in a way such that the applied water freezes and protects the crop canopy.
