The purpose of this study was to examine the satisfactions and meanings related to social
groups and leisure behavior. In particular non-traditional family social groups was
investigated to determine the impact on leisure participation. Data were collected by the
University of Michigan Survey Research Center's Quality of Life Study. The multi-stage

In particular non-traditional family social groups was investigated to determine the impact on leisure participation. Data were collected by the University of Michigan Survey Research Center's Quality of Life Study. The multi-stage probability sampling technique selected out the original sample of 3692 respondents. Results indicated that the type of recreational activities varied with the particular social group. Discriminant analysis revealed significant differences did not exist between the single parent and nuclear family social groups in recreation activity participation. Dual Career families had significant differences in leisure experience expectations when compared to the other social groups.
