Abstract
In vitro cultivation of shoot tips and nodes of Lavandula angustifolia L. provided new plantlets on hormone-free MS medium and sporadically on MS medium with NAA, BAP, IAA and kinetin+NAA. The main reaction of explants (shoot tips, nodes, internode fragments, and leaves) on different hormonal compositions of MS medium was callogenesis. The nodes and stem fragments cultivated on MS supplemented with 2 mg l-1 IAA generated a highly proliferative friable cream-colored callus, both in light and in darkness. The biomass yielded by this callus type on different hormonal treatments in a period of 14 days was the highest on the medium containing 1 mg l-1 BAP and 0.5 mg l-1 GA3. Repeated subcultivation of the callus on MS medium supplemented with 0.2-0.5 mg l-1 BAP in light conditions improved its consistency and led to formation of green isles of cells that provided multiple shoots.
