ICU, part of the health care units in hospital, is still the main concern when conducting research on the acoustical condition of hospital. According to previous researches, the acoustic problems were responsible for 20.9%-26.2% of the ICU patient’s recovery process. This paper aims to describe the condition of ICU in a hospital in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Characterization of the Soundscape conditions of the ICU was carried out using two methods, which were objective measurement and subjective evaluation. Objective acoustic measurements were done using a dummy head system and Real Time Analyser (RTA). Objective measurement was done by measuring several noise level parameters at 2 measurement points. The two measurement points are measured using microphones attached to a dummy head. Measurements were done by taking 15 minutes soundscape recording at each point for the duration of 48 hours. The microphones on the dummy head were positioned 1.2 m above the floor. The second method was a subjective observation using questionnaires and noise sources observation. Result of the sound energy measurement shows that the Leq, L10, and L50 values were 39.7 dBA, 40.7 dBA, and 38.4 dBA, respectively. According to the Indonesian National standard those values are acceptable, but still exceeded the recommended values of WHO standard for hospital. The sound source observation shows that the main source of noise was generated by the EKG’s monitor, alarm ventilators, and nurses’ conversation. It was also found that there is a speech privacy problem inside the ICU due to the room’s layout.
