The south-western districts of Punjab, once considered to be the cotton belt of India, has become a victim of waterlogging during the last two decades due to seepage from canals, not withdrawal of brackish groundwater, and changing cropping pattern. Therefore, an attempt has been made to analyze and delineate the waterlogged area based on water table depth in the south-western districts of Punjab using ArcGIS for the three periods viz. 1974, 2001 and 2019. The maximum waterlogged and potential waterlogged area for the year 1974, 2001 and 2019 was found in the districts of Firozpur, Muktsar and Fazilka respectively. It is concluded that the problem of waterlogging has been shifted from Northern to south western part of the south west Punjab.
