In Modern democratic political systems, political parties are considered indispensable and essential elements and Political parties assume crucial roles in the development and functioning of democratic political system. One of these roles pertains to activities performed to obtain political power or be a partner in the exercise of political power through political elections in the framework of the practice of today’s representative democracy. A majority of these activities are undoubtedly carried out by deputy candidates of political parties themselves or under their auspices. Therefore, who will be deputy candidates of political parties turns to be a matter of particular importance. At this juncture, the nomination of deputy candidates for elections enters into the picture as a salient issue. The main element of the importance of this issue is the degree to which the procedures used by the political parties in determining the candidates of deputies, which are very important for the democratic political system and which are even defined as the essential condition of democracy, are in accordance with the democratic principles and practices. In General, different procedures are applied in determining the candidates of deputies of political parties in Turkey This study aims to analyze which procedures are applied to the nomination of deputy candidates of political parties in Turkey, contents of these procedures and (the relevant provisions of the law on political parties (LPP) No. 2820 of 1983, which is of great importance for the subject, and the changes made in these provisions in the historical process will be evaluated and lastly, procedures for the nomination of deputy candidates in the framework of bylaws of Justice and Development Party, Republican People’s Party and Nationalist Movement Party.
