TRIENNIAL LACTATION SYMPOSIUM: Nutrigenomics in dairy cows: Nutrients, transcription factors, and techniques,

M Bionaz, J Osorio, JJ Loor - Journal of animal science, 2015 - academic.oup.com
Nutrigenomics in dairy cows is a relatively new area of research. It is defined as the study of
the genomewide influences of nutrition altering the expression of genes. Dietary compounds
affect gene expression directly or indirectly via interactions with transcription factors. Among
those, the most relevant for nutrigenomics are ligand-dependent nuclear receptors,
especially peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPAR) and liver X receptor. Among
other transcription factors, a prominent nutrigenomic role is played by the sterol regulatory …

Rijnkels 5530 and multidisciplinary integrated approaches to present and future problems
are needed in the field. To this end, the training of students, scientists, and professionals in
understanding the importance of using an integrated systems biology approach is
imperative. Later in the day, Juan Loor (University of Illinois, Urbana) gave a presentation on
using the systems biology toolbox consisting of the use of omics technology and
bioinformatics together with performance and metabolic measurements to study nutrition in …
