The objective of this research is to uncover the psycho-social aspects that influence and cause the behavior of smokers who do not have an awareness to change and to get deep information about the cigarette meaning shift among urban poor people. The approach used was qualitative, with case study method in 5 informants taken purposively. The data were obtained through deep interviews and observations and then were analyzed inductively. The research results indicated the psycho-social factors that were the chain that trapped the forming of smoking behavior, where educational level, social environment and friendship formed strong belief, behavior, and values. Besides that, the belief about positive impacts of cigarette was also the trigger that made them think smoking is a need or necessity.
