The response of wood strength to various combinations of temperatures, heating periods
and media of treatment has been the subject of a number of studies in the recent years.
While the nature of the heat-induced changes in wood cell wall chemistry has also been
examined by a number of authors, little information is available on the relationships between
the progressive changes in mechanical properties to the concurrent changes in chemical
composition. The purpose of this work was to investigate this relationship.
