A theoretical model is established to reveal the change of thermal strain distribution due to
temperature variation in a quadrupolar fibre coil without a spool. In the proposed model, the
change of fibre coil thermal strain is calculated by considering both the thermal expansion of
the fibre itself and the expansion of the curing glue adhered. Moreover, four experiments are
performed which measure the fibre coil strain by a stress analyser in 0, 25, 40 and 50° C.
