The obligatory introduction of a foreign language will create an even larger demand for well trained foreign language teachers who should realise and be able to cope with the specificity of teaching young learners. The need, in particular, concerns language teachers of English, as this is the language most parents would like their children to learn, recognising it as a" lingua franca". Is Poland ready for the introduction of this regulation on admitting the fact that there is still shortage of language teachers for older learners? Do teacher training institutions sufficiently prepare the trainees for teaching young learners? The goal of the current paper is to define the skills and qualities
* The goal of my paper is to define what skills and qualities a foreign language teacher of young learners must possess (eg not only linguistic but also pedagogical and artistic skills,) and how teacher education in Poland meets these demands. I am also going to describe the state-of-the art of early foreign language instruction in Poland, ie who the young learners' teachers of L2 (most typically) are, how they are educated, and what impact these have on the language teaching/learning process. In conclusion, I am going to pinpoint some solutions to the teacher education system as well as outline some changes already being introduced.
