Ultratrace PIXE analysis in water with low selective metal preconcentration at various pH

A procedure is described for the preparation of trace and ultratrace (1500 ppb to 10 ppt)
targets for PIXE analysis preconcentrated from water samples. Elements such as Fe, Co, Ni,
Cu, Ag, Cd, Hg, Pb, Bi were preconcentrated as carbamate chelates at pH= 9 and V, Se, Mo
were collected as carbamate chelates at pH= 4, by use of a collector precipitation (Pd or Cu,
that acts as internal standard). Measurements of targets from single-element and multi-
element solutions were performed. Detection limits were evaluated.
