Variations of volcanic earthquake source parameters before volcanic eruptions

Dynamic parameters of a swarm of volcanic earthquakes (mb= 3.5–4.8) were studied during
a two-week period preceding the large fissure eruption of Tolbachik volcano in 1975. A
sharp change of elastic stress orientation in the region of Tolbachik volcano was observed
four days before the eruption. Simultaneously an increase of predominant P-wave periods
was observed. The stress drop in earthquake foci decreased.
