Quantitative analysis of situational awareness (QUASA): Applying signal detection theory to true/false probes and self-ratings

B McGuinness - Command and Control Research and Technology …, 2004 - apps.dtic.mil
This paper describes a technique for assessing the situational awareness of individuals
such as warfighters participating in C2 experiments and exercises. Known as QUASA
quantitative analysis of situational awareness, the technique combines both objective
queries truefalse probes and subjective self-ratings of confidence for each probe response.
The data so obtained are then analyzed and interpreted using the mathematical framework
of Signal Detection Theory SDT. The rationale behind the technique is described, followed …

Quantitative Analysis of Situation Awareness (QASA): modelling and measuring situation awareness using signal detection theory

GK Edgar, D Catherwood, S Baker, G Sallis… - Ergonomics, 2018 - Taylor & Francis
This paper presents a model of situation awareness (SA) that emphasises that SA is
necessarily built using a subset of available information. A technique (Quantitative Analysis
of Situation Awareness–QASA), based around signal detection theory, has been developed
from this model that provides separate measures of actual SA (ASA) and perceived SA
(PSA), together with a feature unique to QASA, a measure of bias (information acceptance).
These measures allow the exploration of the relationship between actual SA, perceived SA …
