This paper presents a modified control strategy for variable speed wind energy generation
system (VSWEGS). The proposed VSWEGS is based on three phase squirrel cage induction
generator (SCIG) operating under grid isolated configuration. For controlling of SCIG, the
voltage and frequency control loops are employed. The frequency reference to the
bidirectional converter also ensures the maximum power point tracking operation of SCIG.

This paper presents a modified control strategy for variable speed wind energy generation system (VSWEGS). The proposed VSWEGS is based on three phase squirrel cage induction generator (SCIG) operating under grid isolated configuration. For controlling of SCIG, the voltage and frequency control loops are employed. The frequency reference to the bidirectional converter also ensures the maximum power point tracking operation of SCIG. The active and reactive power flow is controlled by phase angle control loop. At input side of single-phase inverter, a dc to dc buck-boost converter keeps the voltage level of dc bus at a suitable value. The fixed frequency single phase inverter fed from the dc bus delivers the generated power to domestic loads. The proposed scheme is verified by the suitable MATLAB-Simulink simulation results.
