An energy storage medium helps conserve energy and improve performance of a large number of energy systems. Any solar power installation efficiency is restricted by interruption at night or low insolation. Research has been conducted on different phase change materials as thermal storage in application of solar air dryer to enhance its performance. Integration of phase change materials can play a major role to maintain a constant temperature of the heating air and maximize working hours of the system. Such materials work as latent heat storage system, the heat gets absorbed or released when a material changes its phase from solid to liquid and vice versa. The paper summarized various commonly used phase change materials as thermal storage mediums and how they can improve thermal efficiency of solar heating systems.
