This paper presents some principles and the modality of organising a knowledge base for
the control of several autonomous transport vehicles in a processing department, using the
facilities offered by the dBase IV programming language. The knowledge base represents
the main part of the intelligent system which controls the ensemble of robot vehicles to solve
their tasks in real time: to carry half-processed parts between the machine-tools after flexible
programs, to provide the working cells with materials, and to evacuate the finite products.
