An efficient reliability-based simulation method for optimum laser peening treatment

PJ Hasser, AS Malik, K Langer… - Journal of …, 2016 - asmedigitalcollection.asme.org
A method is introduced for efficient reliability-based design of laser peening (LP) surface
treatment to extend fatigue life of metal components. The method includes nonparametric
probability density estimation, surrogate modeling using a new finite element (FE or FEA)
approach, and reliability analysis with correlated random variables (RVs). Efficient LP
simulation is achieved via a new technique termed single explicit analysis using time-
dependent damping (SEATD), which reduces simulation times by a factor of 6. The example …

An efficient reliability-based simulation framework for optimum laser peening treatment

PJ Hasser - 2014 - search.proquest.com
A framework is introduced for efficient reliability-based design optimization of laser peening
surface treatments used to extend fatigue life of metallic components. Motivation for the work
is to reduce experimental testing in identifying suitable laser peening parameters. The
framework includes non-parametric probability density estimation, surrogate modeling using
finite element simulations, and reliability analysis with correlated random variables. To
facilitate efficient finite element modeling of the laser peening process, a new approach …
