Abstract
The study investigated the relationship between job stress and turnover intention of flight attendants in Nigeria. In this study, antecedents are defined in terms of conflicts in the family such as work to family and family to work conflicts, and consequences are defined in terms of job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and both factors were used to determine turnover intention among flight attendants in Nigerian Aviation industry. The methodology used in this study is quantitative, explanatory correlation research design and data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire that involved 150 flight attendants and were analyzed using descriptive, correlation, and multiple regression statistics. The findings of the research revealed that there is a positive relationship between job stress and turnover intention among flight attendants in Nigeria. It also revealed that there is a link between family to work conflict, job stress, job satisfaction, organizational commitment. Also, when flight attendants are satisfied with their job, they tend to remain on the job. This study recommended that Human Factor course should be made mandatory for flight attendants and Organizations should ensure that the component of stress management is covered in the course. Also, Flight attendants should be well exposed to what the organization are doing as regards their commitment to reducing work to family and family to work conflict so that they can derive satisfaction on the job such as. on issues regarding roasters, reduction in the number of night stop. Again, Management should focus on how to manage stress of flight attendants in other to reduce their urge of moving from one domestic airline to another. Furthermore, Management should improve on the welfare package of flight attendants in other to increase their job satisfaction and reduce the issue of turnover intention. Lastly, Policy makers in aviation industry should make it mandatory for airline operators to comply with the rules and regulations guiding flight attendant duties.
