In this study, the economic and environmental feasibility of a process configuration based on
the Bioenergy and Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) concept is assessed. The
research analyses the production of jet fuel from forestry residues-derived syngas via the
Fischer-Tropsch (FT) technology. Further, the CO 2 removed in the syngas cleaning section
is not released to the environment, instead it is permanently sequestrated. The produced
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) has the potential to achieve negative emissions. The …

Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS)

M Fajardy - 2022 - books.rsc.org
Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage or BECCS has been a cornerstone technology
of emissions trajectories compatible with a 1.5 to 2 1C target since the IPCC fifth assessment
report in 2014, owing to its theoretically large carbon removal potential and mitigation value
to the energy system. Sustainability concerns around the scale up of bioenergy production,
the diversity of potential bioenergy pathways, the emergence of alternative technology-
based and/or natural-based carbon removal methods, and local opposition to bioenergy and …
