Being" culturally competent" certainly represents a basic condition for any person who wants
to interact effectively with people of different cultures. This is the reason why both the English
language teacher and the translator trainer must provide the students with suitable input
meant to develop their cultural competence. The paper will look at the similarities and the
differences that these two types of training involve, discussing them both from a theoretical
and from a practical perspective.
