This article explores the significant challenge of international new ventures-firms that are
international from inception-to existing internationalization process theory. A growing
number of firms are experiencing accelerated internationalization. The risk-averse and
incremental nature of internationalization described by traditional process theory may
inadequately explain this historical change.
