The structural stability of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) has been studied by
spectroscopic and calorimetric methods. These studies demonstrate that the
folding/unfolding equilibrium of rhGH involves a partially folded dimeric intermediate. At acid
pH (pH 3) the formation of this intermediate is a reversible process. At higher pH values
reversibility is not observed and the intermediate state has a higher propensity towards
oligomerization.
