Delay in construction projects has many diverse negative effects among the stakeholders. Construction project delay can cause cost and time overrun, decline in quality, mistrust and arbitration during the construction project cycle. Therefore, the study seeks to assess the causes, effects and methods of minimization of construction project delay in Nigeria. A questionnaire survey was conducted within the construction firms considering the indigenous and multinational firms. A purposive sampling technique was adopted. A total of fifty-eight (58) questionnaires were used for the analysis. The findings of the study show that cash flow problems, shortage of construction materials, client’s financial difficulties, inadequate consultant experience and incompetent project team and so on were the causes of delay in construction projects. The study also revealed that time overrun; disputes, cost overrun, litigation/arbitration and project abandonment were the major effects of delay of construction projects. The findings, reveal that the methods of minimizing delay are frequent progress meeting, proper site management and supervision, proper coordination between the parties involved, proper material procurement and commitment to projects by all parties concerned. The study recommends that effective communication and coordination of project deliverables among the stakeholders can eradicate or minimize the occurrence of projects delay in the construction industry. __________________________________________________________________________________________
