The Internet may be able to aid communication between the patient and the (CP), particularly if the patient is comfortable with, and in control of their information. We implemented an Internet Medicine Cabinet (Winston) to provide objects for patient-pharmacist communication, including online storage of medication detail and problems/issues related to medication. Eligible patients from the Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital (WCH) were enrolled in a trial of Winston wherein they maintained their own online records to share with their CPs. Results of the pilot show that participants strongly support the concept of Winston, and consumers find it usable, although actual usage was low. We believe the low usage reflects the variable nature of chronic disease, time constraints of Internet usage and hardware issues.
