… In this paper, we first calculate the impact of QoT degradation propagation due to EDFA
gain transient in the case of link failure from network perspective. We then experimentally
demonstrate that link failure causes this QoT degradation propagation at downstream nodes.
We also demonstrate that burst-mode EDFA (BM-EDFA) [3, 4] suppress less than 0.3 dB
while conventional C-EDFA achieves over 7.5 dB under 55% paths disconnection of a link.

Abstract
This paper identifies that a link failure causes temporal QoT degradation propagation of 40.2% existing paths in a whole network by conventional EDFA and experimentally demonstrates this transient degradation can be suppressed by burst-mode EDFA.
