Purdue University has significantly increased air-breathing propulsion test capabilities of the Maurice Zucrow Laboratories with the construction of a new high pressure combustion research facility. The facility is comprised of five reinforced-concrete test cells, a laser laboratory, three control rooms, fabrication and assembly areas, and associated building and research infrastructure mechanical spaces. The new building is situated to leverage the existing high pressure air and propellant capabilities of the High Pressure Lab, while adding uniquely capable test cell space with the ability to productively apply advanced laser and optical diagnostic measurements to high-power reacting flows. This work summarizes the operating capabilities of the laboratory with detailed specifications for the various air and propellant systems, data acquisition and control systems, and conventional instrumentation and advanced optical diagnostic systems. The rationale for the design of the facility to allow the productive operation of multiple research experiments utilizing shared infrastructure will be examined.
