In this paper, a compact E shaped microstrip patch antenna (MPA) with high gain has been
presented and proposed for X-band satellite applications. The proposed MPA is fed by 50Ω
microstrip line feed. The structural design and simulation of proposed MPA is done using
CST Microwave Studio simulation tool. The proposed MPA has a ground plane of 17.485×

The structural design and simulation of proposed MPA is done using CST Microwave Studio simulation tool. The proposed MPA has a ground plane of 17.485×15.297 mm 2 and the dimension of the patch is 7.885×6.597 mm 2 . The height (thickness) of the MPA is 1.67 mm. Here, Polyimide (lossy) dielectric substrate is sandwiched between FR4 (lossy) and Glass (lossy) dielectric substrate to increase the gain of MPA as multiple dielectric substrates technique. The proposed antenna resonates at frequency of 9.792 GHz which has a minimum return loss of -18.44 dB, high gain of 6.01 dB and high directivity of 6.78 dBi. The antenna has a compact area and operating bandwidth of around 610 MHz (9.49 GHz to 10.1 GHz). Simple configuration and low profile nature of the proposed antenna is very suitable for easy fabrication and can be employed for X-band satellite applications like military, weather monitoring, single and dual polarization etc.
