We show how to design an optimal camera aperture for a given display aperture defined on
an arbitrary spatial or spatio-temporal sampling lattice. This is achieved by determining the
reciprocal Riesz basis for the vector space of displayed images. The result can be used to
specify ideal virtual cameras for a number of applications such as regularized image up-
sampling. A case study for displaying a hexagonally sampled image on a cathode ray tube
is presented.
