Abstract
The application of nanoparticles as potent nematicides along with the plant growth-promoting effects is quite intriguing to meet the need for an alternative management strategy for nematode management. Here we reported the nematicidal effects of synthesized Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO) against Meloidogyne incognita second-stage juveniles (J2S) under in vitro and in planta conditions at different concentrations. Scanning Electron Micrograph of CuO nanoparticles treated J₂S revealed the distorted, crinkled cuticle in comparison to control J₂S. CuO nanoparticles in graded concentrations (50, 100 and 200 ppm) applied concomitantly, three days before and after the nematode inoculation was assessed in terms of morphology, yield and biochemical attributes of infected Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Gomti.). In planta, trials revealed that the application of CuO nanoparticles before the nematode inoculation at 100 ppm concentration exhibited healthier growth attributes besides concurrent reduction in nematode parameters in comparison to plants treated with M. incognita.
