Textbooks are considered as the most prominent and ubiquitous part of education all over the world. However, the advent of the Internet, along with the emergence of multimedia technologies, is revolutionizing this aspect of education and is substituting printed textbooks with their electronic counterparts. In the very near future, electronic textbooks (e-textbook) will be the preferred choice of both teachers and students (Lee, Messom, & Yau, 2013). Electronic delivery mechanisms are changing the conventional format of textbooks and are disseminating digital contents around the globe (Murray & Perez, 2011). The textbook market is being revolutionized by the digital age. This circumstance is leading to easier availability of e-textbooks. E-textbooks have been available for two decades. Nowadays, you can have access to the electronic format of most popular textbooks (Murray & Perez, 2011). The sudden growth of interest in e-textbooks may also be due to the explosive rise of e-reader devices and e-book apps. Devices such as tablets, PCs, Apple’s iPads, and smart phones have caused an upswing in the favor of e-textbooks. To select the most appropriate e-textbooks, it is recommended to evaluate them to find their potential strengths and weaknesses. The present chapter aims to elaborate on definitions of e-books, their advantages, and criteria required for their evaluation.
