Background Burned patients with acute kidney injury (AKI) requiring renal replacement
therapy (RRT) have exceedingly high mortality rates of 73% to 100%. Since January 2011,
we have been adopting an early RRT approach in managing burned patients with AKI. Our
hypothesis was that early initiation of RRT leads to improved outcome and survival among
burned patients with AKI.
