The paper deals with a numerical investigation of antireflection coating effect on the performance of a based quaternary chalcopyrite semiconductor alloy CulnGaSe 2 (CIGS) solar cell using Atlas module from SILVACO Technology Computer-Aided Design (T-CAD). The open-voltage (V oc ), short-circuit current density (J sc ) and conversion efficiency (η) have been investigated with and without anti-reflective coating (ARC) in various thicknesses of ARC and main layers. A single magnesium fluoride (MgF 2 ) AR coating layer is utilized in order to achieve the best performance. Simulation results show that a conversion efficiency increase from 18.99 to 20.52% is obtained (an improvement of 8.10%) when using a single 0.11μm MgF 2 ARC monolayer.
