A Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a self establishing network of mobile nodes grouped by a wireless link without fixed infrastructure. In MANET each node takes part in sending and receiving of data packets. The Data packets in Manet if not delivered properly due to various factors like Mobility, Routing overhead, Route Failure and high battery power consumption, results in frequent route discovery process and reduced the Efficiency of Packet Delivery ratio. In this paper, based on the different Backup Routing schemes in AODV (Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector Routing) we propose a Novel scheme called AODV-EEBR (Energy Efficient Backup Routing) to reduce the route failure with the help of Backup path and Increase the Packet delivery fraction by calculating probability of neighbour coverage nodes. With the help of Backup nodes Neighbour nodes are discovered and updated periodically in Backup nodes routing table, based on the probability of neighbour coverage ratio. At any point on the route if failure occurs, the backup node acts as an interface between the sender and receiver. Our Simulation results show that AODV-EEBR has an enhanced packet delivery ratio and end-to-end delay than other backup routing schemes.
