Abstract
ABSTRACT Root tubers of Chlorophytum borivilianum Santapau & Fernandes (Liliaceae) has been widely used for its various biological activity in indigenous system of medicine. Hence, the present investigation was carried out to find the effect of methanolic extract of Root tubers of Chlorophytum borivilianum (MECB) for its anthelmintic activity. Anthelmintic activity of extract was evaluated on Indian adult earthworms, Pherentima posthuma in various doses (10, 25, 50, 100 mg/ml). Time of paralysis and time of death of the worms were considered as the parameters to assess the anthelmintic action. Piperazine citrate and 2% w/v gum acacia in distilled water were used as standard and control respectively. The results suggest that paralysis and death of worms found to be more at higher concentration of the crude methanolic extract when compared to standard reference compound.
