Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is getting attention as a promising diagnostic technique for lithium-ion batteries. In order to meet the demand for the inspection of numerous cells in the industry, it is necessary to shorten the time of EIS while maintaining essential information. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel strategy to reduce the measurement frequency points aiming for a faster EIS. Based on the distribution of relaxation times (DRT), an emerging interpretation method of EIS results, the preservation of information is evaluated. Experimental results confirm the capability of finding the minimum points per decade value for the EIS without causing a significant error in the time constants of peaks in the DRT. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first approach to adopt the DRT for optimizing the experimental design of EIS.
