This study evaluated the effectiveness of spatially overlaid instructions using augmented
reality (AR) in an assembly task compared with other traditional media. Results indicate that
overlaying 3D instructions on the workspace reduce error rate by 82%, particularly
cumulative errors. Measurement of mental effort also suggests some of the mental workload
is offloaded to the computer.
