Early marriage is a common phenomenon in Bangladesh. The practice of early marriage limits young girls’ skills, knowledge, social support, mobility and autonomy. This study was thus designed to identify the causes that leave no choice for parents but to give daughters marriage at very young age. The study was conducted in three wards namely wards no. 17, 18 and 19 of Khulna City Corporation area, Khulna, Bangladesh during June to December 2009 by survey method and the sample size was 120. Social pressures, eve teasing, family size and few other factors were pushing parents to give marriage of their young daughters, who were not even fifteen. Parental education and income plus daughters’ levels of education seem to overcome the age problem for marriage at a significant level.
