Having recognized the need for pesticide-related issues, the present study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of a training program on the farmers’ knowledge about the safe use of plant protection measures. The ‘One Sample Before-After Design’ was used for the study with a stratified random sample of 205 vegetable farmers. Araziline and Chakia blocks were purposively selected from Varanasi and Chandauli districts, respectively. Pre-training study shows that about 74.63 per cent of respondent have a medium level of overall knowledge about safe plant protection measures before training. Percentages of vegetable farmers having a high and low level of knowledge were 13.66 and 11.71, respectively. The overall mean score of knowledge about safe plant protection measures was 13.53 before training. When they were evaluated after training, the mean score increased to 26.09 with a difference of 12.57. The ‘t’ value was measured 34.57 (significant at 1% level of probability). This shows a significant change in the overall knowledge level of vegetable farmers on safe plant protection measures.
