This research investigates the effects of disturbance and soils on vegetation dynamics in
eastern US serpentine barrens along the Pennsylvania-Maryland border. The objectives
were to identify:(1) the effects of disturbance and soils on forest composition, structure, and
dynamics;(2) how these forests respond in the short term to prescribed burning; and,(3)
vegetation change and the mechanisms causing change.
