Fracture behaviour of ceramic/metal laminates was investigated. Diffusion bonding was
used to fabricate the laminates from tape cast ceramics (alumina and partially stabilised
zirconia PSZ) and metal foils (nickel and aluminium). Residual stresses due to the diffusion
bonding were measured in the alumina and PSZ layers using fluorescence and Raman
spectroscopy respectively. The fracture toughness resistance curves were measured for the
laminates, and the cracking mode (single or multiple cracking) was investigated.
