Gamification is the process of adding game elements to a nongame context in order to
facilitate engagement (Kapp, 2012). It is commonly used as a business strategy, but is also
becoming increasingly popular in education (de Byl, 2012). Although gamification does not
necessarily mean the creation of a game, in the case of this project, the goal was to produce
a game to enhance engagement with first year statistics students.
